Andy Goldsworthy (born 26 July 1956) is a British Sculptor and environmentalist living in Scotland who produces site-specific sculpture and land art situated in natural and urban settings. His art involves the use of natural and found objects, to create both temporary and permanent sculptures which draw out the character of their environment. (Taken From Wiki) Andy Goldsworthy and his work are absolutely incredible and are a sure source of inspiration. Andy Goldsworthy takes his work into a whole other level of discipline and purpose. 17 Words of Architectural Inspiration

This is the TED talk with Daniel Libeskind in which as you can see from the title, conveys 17 inspirational words of Architecture. We first came across this talk quite some time ago and were thoroughly impressed with the speech he gave and the ideas he presented. We however were definitely on the opposite side of the norm. Please check out the immense bashing he receives from a very diverse and educated crowd in the comments. Person upon person goes into some sort of rhetoric about how abysmal his talk and his Architecture are. Some give specific examples while others just shed feelings. A few of us here have been to the Berlin Museum (VIDEO LINK) as well as the WestSide Shopping Centre in Switzerland and have found both of them to be just as physically and mentally stimulating as it is visually. Consequently, several people we encountered and discussed with have found his Museum in Denver to be an utter failure. With that said we will leave the discussions up to you and hope you find the two videos and the post helpful in your search for true design.

Video 10 Green Beijing. Extreme Architecture before Olympic Games

This is the video from National Geographic showcasing the design and construction of Samsung Pavilion for the past olympic games by firm IMAGINATION. Not only is this structure built in 3 months, it is taken down almost immediately after. If you are from the states, this video will blow you away. Watch as construction workers walk around with thongs, no shirts, sleep on the site, work non-stop, and even have other construction crews come along and start excavating on the site. This video is an absolute insight into the ways in which things are done in the design world (Provided you are not from China) outside. From start to finish this video is a great watch.

Video 09 Moshe Safdie on Building Uniqueness

A beautiful TED talk from Architect Moshe Safdie filled with incredible humility and respect. It is truly a pleasure to see someone from your field who has made a name for themselves still possess genuine feelings for his fellow man/woman. We were more inspired by his talk and demeanor then we were by his actual work. This is saying a lot because his work is still very dynamic. This talk is a little old but contains a ton of inspiration. We hope you find some of the same beauty we have in this talk by Moshe Safdie on TED.

This video is in conjunction with the Grant Associate post and their Design for the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, China. The amount of money that goes into these designs is nothing short of astounding. This video which appears to be done with some sort of 3d modeling program (3ds max+vray) then added to adobe after effects. Video 06 Millau Viaduct by Lord Norman Foster

This is the video from National Geographic Megastructures of the design/construction of the Millau Viaduct in France by Lord Norman Foster. Check out how amazing the engineering is on the project. It is absolutely mind boggling how precise they were with the raising of the Pylons (10mm I think) and how precise they were with the meeting of the two sides (2mm I think). This video will be sure to inspire every Architect on how much can be achieved. It is wonderful to think that the designs people create no matter how imaginative can actually become reality. Enjoy.

Video 05 Liz Diller Plays with Architecture

It always astounds me at the insight behind the concepts that certain firms find and in weave into their designs. Or rather the insights that drive the designs. These wonderful ideas deliver the most compelling and refined deigns I believe. They also come closest to pure design. This video showcases Liz Diller of Diller Scofidio + Renfro as she dynamically disects some of their designs down to their integral parts. I especially feel that her opinion on design is very important and extracting in her definition of what space is and what it means. Please check out more valuable talks here at TED.
